How to Tie and Wear a Long Scarf

How to Tie and Wear a Long Scarf

Long gone are the days when scarves were only worn around the neck. Long scarves are some of the most versatile and striking accessories that you can own, using them to dress an outfit up or down or to add a splash of color. Try one of these many different styles for a whole new outfit.

Step
1

Pick the style that you like with the scarf. There are many different styles to choose, from modern to classics and various places to put your scarf such as in your hair like a hair band, around your waist like a belt or below the bust line to style clothes and accentuate the bust.

Step
2

Take a long scarf and smooth it down so that there are no ruffles or lumps in the material. Ensure that you have removed any labels or that these fold away into the underside of the scarf. If you need to fold the scarf, be sure that you center the folds and the scarf is symmetrical.

Step
3

Hold the scarf in the desired position and adjust it so that it is the same width all around. If you are copying one of the headband styles, this is less important as the scarf will naturally crease at the back, but for styles around the waist and bust, use a mirror or ask someone else to check that the scarf is straight.

Step
4

Make sure that the knots are tight and will withstand the wear of the day. If you are in doubt, you can secure headbands with additional clips or just tie in a double knot. Make sure the knots are as small as possible, especially if the scarf material is thick, to avoid bunching together at the back.

Step
5

Add additional accessories to match the scarf style and colors but be careful if your scarf has a pattern as this can sometimes clash with other patterned clothes. Experiment by using different lengths and materials as well as the demonstrated styles.
